This is exactly what I have been hunting for this long. At the very first impression what impressed was its sturdy tripod and it gives vertical adjustment.I am also able to do photography with this. I feel compactness is very important in any product and even if u feels the same this will be the right one.
This is a remarkable little scope. It’s performance is far better than I had any right to expect at the price I paid.
The intention was to have a cheap “Pack & Go” telescope. A compact knockabout, an inexpensive mediocre scope that could rattle around in the trunk of the car all the time, just in case; one that if it broke or got stolen, I wouldn’t go crazy.
What a surprise I got!
I’ve over a dozen custom built telescopes, many with superb mirrors as large as 15″. No way that this little thing was going to fair well in a comparison so I didn’t bother.
However, I went wild when I looked at Jupiter with the 26mm eyepiece that came with it (46 X Magnification). Sharp as a scalpel. Amazing contrast and not a hint of any color aberrations. I bumped the magnification up with a few EP’s I have and the image stayed crisp and sharp.
I popped a 9mm Plossl which at 133 X magnification is really starting to push the limit. The mount, as rigid as it is can’t handle that power. Trying to focus would start the system shaking. Small, light scopes don’t have the mass needed to keep them steady and no one I know would push the magnification up that high anyway. Not sure that such high magnifications can be supported at night with only 90mm optics but it will certainly work during the day time, especially if you can steady the scope with a bean bag.
I brought it to work and some bird watchers tried it out in the parking lot. One bird watcher with a $1500 German spotting scope quipped: “How much did you pay for this?!” He was stunned by the performance too.
The finder is poor and of little value. The cross hairs are way too thick and the alignment screws don’t hold it well.
Serious users might want to replace it with either a better finder or buy a green laser and use that for sighting instead.
I never intended this as a deep space telescope or for any serious planetary viewing. I got this for nature photos and as a light duty travel scope.
After my experiences with it, I’ve decided that it’s too good to be a trunk banger. I’m taking care of this one!
